Nothing can be more fascinating than this. A holy journey starting all across from Dehu to Pandharpur with more than thousands of devotees walking barefooted chanting the holy names of Lord Vitthala. Yes...it is all about the Pandharpur Yatra, one of the most awaited Yatras of the season. Pandharpur Yatra is one of the most popular pilgrimage in the states of Maharashtra which unbelievably...goes on for 21 days. This holy journey ends on the ekadasi day in Ashadi month, also known as Ashadhi Ekadasi Waari of Pandharpur.

The Yatra begins from the Sant Tukaram temple at Dehu and ends at Vitthala Rukmini temple at Pandharpur. Dehu is known to be the birth place of Sant Tukaram. Pandharpur, on the other hand is known for Vithoba temple or Vitthal Rukmini temple which is located on the banks of the Bhima river, also known as Chandrabhaga. It is about 65 km west of Sholapur.

The Yatra to Pandharpur draws more than 10 lakh devotees and the figure keeps on increasing each year. And unlike many other similar yatras, Pandharpur Yatra consists of 2 yatras in a year, one during Ashadhi ekadasi and another during Kartik Ekadasi. Padharpur Yatra is one of the finest examples of unity in diversity as this yatra breaks barriers of caste, creed, rich and poor. Young-old, rich-poor, able-disable, all sorts of people walk barefooted chanting the holy names of Lord Vitthala. People are seen blissful who chant and dance. The yatra travels to Pune city, Alandi and finally reach Pandharpur on 21st day on the previous day of Ashadhi Ekadasi.

The so called Pandharpur Yatra this year began on 3rd July and is likely to conclude on 21st July. Anyone can take part in this yatra and get get blessings of Lord Vittala.
