There are many places in Pune where you can spend your time with your loved ones. And one such place is Sinhagad. Sinhagad is one of the most popular picnic spots in Pune. For those who want to experience best in the trekking, Sinhagad is the place to watch out for. This holidaying destination is located on a hill rising 800 metres above the surrounding countryside. Previously called Kondana (Devanagari), the fort has been the site of many important battles, most notably the battle of Sinhagad in 1670. It was also strategically located at the center of a string of other forts such as Rajgad, Purandar and Torna.

Actually, Sinhagad is a Devanagari term meaning Lion Fort and this fortress is located roughly 30 kilometres southwest of the city of Pune, India. Going back to the bygone era, this lion fort holds a great deal of historical importance. The fort is a reminder of the historical battle fought by the brave Tanaji Malusare, Shelarmama. Tanaji's samadhi can be easily found on the fort. Along with Tanaji's samadhi and Rajaram Maharaj's samadhi, one can also find the bungalows of Lokmanya Tilak and famous Marathi Poet G.D. Madgulkar ( Ga Di Ma ) on the fort. Not to forget, the famous tank with sweet and cold water - which is extremely popular among tourists.

Other major attractions are - Sweet curd, Buttermilk, Kanda bhaji and Pithle-Bhakari of Sinhagad. The tower of Doordarshan -Mumbai is also there on Sinhagad. This tower provides reception to Pune region. You can see the Panshet, Khadakwasla and Varasgaon dams and Torana fort also.

All in all, Sinhagad is an ideal destination for holidaying in Pune. It is one of the very few places in Pune from where you can have the most spectacular view of the entire Pune city. Just make for the trip once and experience the story of courage, heroism and adventure !
