CHAKAN
Chakan is about 32 KM away from Pune, on Pune Nashik Highway. It also Connects Pune-Mumbai Highway to Pune-Nashik Highway and to Pune-Ahmednagar-Aurangabad Highway. Chakan is well connected with Maharashtra State Corporation Transport (ST) buses from all important cities of Western Maharastra. It is 150 KM away from Mumbai, 120 KM away from Ahmednagar and 175 KM from Nashik. It comes under Pune-Mumabi-Nashik Golden Triangle. Chakan boasts a fort called "Bhueekot Killa", which means that the fort is on level ground and surrounded by the fortified walls and turrets. The fort belonged to Chhatrapati Shivaji. It is named "Sangram Durga" due to the 54 days of stiff resistance by the Maratha chieftan Firangoji Narsala" to an overwhelming attack by Mughal Sardar Shahistekhan, who was unbeaten by any other Indian warrior. But At Chakan Fort. Maratha Sardar Firngoji Narsala and his troops (Mawale) made Shaihestekhan struggle mightily and pay a heavy price in casualties to win the Chakan fort in about 54 days. Mughals used high explosives to breach the walls and their following attack was repulsed by the Marathas, therefater Firangoji counter attacked and cut his way deep in to the Mughal encampment where he was finally subdued and captured.
Also the temple of CHAKRESHWAR is of great importance for many people of faith. It is said that at CHAKRESHWAR the DASHRATHA (SHRI RAM'S father) was battling RAKSHASA (Demon King), at which time, wheel of his RATHA (chariot) was stucked in mud, in the pond of CHAKRESHWAR and at that time KAIKAYEE helped him to get it out and this is the reason why DASHRATHA gave her three WAAR (wishes).
In May, Chakan has Big Festival called Khandobacha URUS.
Apart from its historic specialities, Chakan is now emerging as an industrial hub. More than 750 small and large companies are well settled in Chakan MIDC. Many big industrialists consider Chakan as the best auto hub destination.
