SHIVENERI FORT
This historic Shivneri fort, is located about a 105 km from Pune, near Junnar village. Shivneri Fort is known more for its historical significance.Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Maharashtra's biggest pre independence hero was born here in 1630. The massive fortification, which are still evident today, made it one of the most secure fort of those times.
A two and a half hour drive to the north of Pune gets you to the Junnar taluka
Junnar taluka which lies at the foothills of Shivneri fort. The fort lies at 3500 ft above sea level at its highest point. It would take you more than an hour's climb to reach the top if you trek up the fort however there is a road that you can drive up to the gates of the Shivneri Fort. The climate is a few degrees cooler than Pune town, essentially because of the thick forest cover. But summers can be very dry and winters harsh. But the season to look out for is the rains when the region is awash with emerald green artistry. Winter and the rains are without a doubt the best times to visit the fort. You can actually camp for several days near the fort, if you have dry rations, because there are water cisterns aplenty.

Shiv Janmasthan - The birthplace of Shivaji is called Shiv mandir.

How to reach :
To reach on fort Shivneri first we have to reach Junnar. Distance between Junnar Bus stand and Shivneri is 2 km by road.
Ways to reach Junnar :
1) From Mumbai or Kalyan one can reach Junnar via Malshej Ghat or via Khandala Ghat. Route via Malshej Ghat is the preferable as it takes less time. Buses ply hourly from Kalyan towards Junnar. Distance from Mumbai is approximately 100 km. 2) From Pune or Shivaji Nagarone can take buses for Junnar. Buses ply hourly for Junnar from these bus stands. 3) On Kalyan – Nagar road there lie two diversions: a) Bangar Phata b) Aale Phata.
One can also descend at any one of these diversions and use local transport to reach Junnar city.
