t's time for Janmashtami, the festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna. In Pune, the highlight of the festival is the legendary dahi handi, a clay pot filled withcurds and often with money. Celebrated with aplomb among various mandals in the city, the handi is tied to a rope several feet high from the ground with boys or 'Govinda' making a human pyramid to break it amidst chants of 'Govinda Aala re'. In fact, competitions are also held among these mandals, promising an entertaining treat for those watching.
