DURSHET:
Durshet, a village in the Pen taluka in Raigad district is an ideal destination for those looking for an adventurous weekend. About 90 km from Pune, Durshet offers a wide range of possibilities from rock climbing and rappelling to river crossing apart from the usual options of trekking and bird-watching.
The Amba River, which flows through the woody forests has a large number of natural waterfalls during the monsoons in and around Durshet. Trekking through falls, with a view of the Sahyadri Ranges in the backdrop is a popular option for many. Other places worth visiting in the area include the Pali and Mahad Ashta Vinayak Ganapati temples, the Thanala rock cut caves, the battlefield of Umbarkhind which is said to be the site where Chhatrapati Shivaji defeated Uzbek general Kartalab Khan.
